Aitareya Upanishad 2.4

सा भावयित्री भावयितव्या भवति | तं स्त्री गर्भं बिभर्ति सोऽग्रेणैव कुमारं जन्मनोऽग्रे भावयति | स यत्कुमारं जन्मनोऽग्रे भावयत्यात्मानमेव तद्भावयत्येषां लोकानां सन्तत्या ॥

sa bhavayitri bhavayitavya bhavati | tam stri garbham bibharti so'grenaiva kumaram janmano'gre bhavayati | sa yat kumaram janmano'gre bhavayaty atmanam eva tad bhavayaty esham lokanam santatya ||

She who nourishes is to be nourished. The woman bears the embryo. He cherishes the child even before and after birth. In cherishing the child, he cherishes his own self for the continuation of these worlds.

वह पोषण करने वाली (माता) स्वयं पोषणीय हो जाती है। स्त्री उस गर्भ को धारण करती है। वह (पिता) जन्म से पूर्व और जन्म के पश्चात् भी कुमार का पोषण करता है। जन्म से पूर्व और पश्चात् जब वह कुमार का पोषण करता है, तब वह अपने ही आत्मा का पोषण करता है — इन लोकों की सन्तति के निमित्त।
