Brahma Sutras 2.26

शब्दादिभ्यो ऽन्तः प्रतिष्ठानाच्च नेति चेन्न तथा दृष्ट्युपदेशादसम्भवात्पुरुषमपि चैनमधीयते ॥

shabdadibhyo'ntah pratishthhanach cha na iti chen na tatha drishti-upadeshat asambhavat purusham api chainam adhiyate

If it be said that Brahman is not meant because it abides within the elements, we say no, because meditation is taught thus, and because of the impossibility otherwise, and because they read of this one as the Purusha.

[पूर्वपक्ष:] शब्द आदि [अवयवों] के भीतर प्रतिष्ठित होने से [ब्रह्म नहीं] — [तो] नहीं, क्योंकि उस प्रकार दृष्टि (ध्यान) का उपदेश है, [और जीव का वैसा होना] असम्भव है, और [उसे] "पुरुष" भी [कहा जाता है] ॥
