Brihadaranyaka Upanishad 1.16

अथ ह श्रोत्रमभ्यवदन् — त्वं न उद्गायेति । तथेति तेभ्यः श्रोत्रमुदगायत् — यः श्रोत्रे भोगस्तं देवेभ्य आगायत् यत्कल्याणं शृणोति तदात्मने ॥

atha ha shrotram abhyavadan — tvam na udgayeti | tatheti tebhyah shrotram udagayat | yah shrotre bhogas tam devebhya agayat yat kalyanam shrinoti tad atmane ||

Then the gods said to the Ear: 'Chant the Udgitha for us.' 'So be it,' said the Ear, and chanted for them. Whatever enjoyment is in the ear, it obtained for the gods; whatever good it hears, it obtained for itself.

तब देवताओं ने श्रोत्र से कहा: 'हमारे लिए उद्गान करो।' 'ठीक है' कहकर श्रोत्र ने उद्गान किया। श्रोत्र में जो भोग था, देवताओं के लिए गाया; जो कल्याण श्रोत्र सुनता है, वह अपने लिए।
