Brihadaranyaka Upanishad 1.41

तस्मादिदमर्धबृगलमिव स्वः इति ह स्माह याज्ञवल्क्यः — तस्मादयमाकाशः स्त्रिया पूर्यत एव । तां समभवत् — ततो मनुष्या अजायन्त ॥

tasmad idam ardhabrigalam iva svah iti ha smaha yajnavalkyah — tasmad ayam akasha striya puryata eva | tam samabhavat — tato manushya ajayanta ||

Therefore, said Yajnavalkya, this body is like one half of a split grain. Therefore this space is filled by the wife. He was united with her, and from that human beings were born.

इसीलिए याज्ञवल्क्य ने कहा: यह शरीर अर्धबृगल (विखण्डित अन्न के दाने का आधा) जैसा है। इसीलिए यह आकाश स्त्री से पूरित है। उसने उससे मिलन किया — उससे मनुष्य उत्पन्न हुए।
