Brihadaranyaka Upanishad 2.19

स यत्र स्वप्न्या चरति ते हास्य लोकाः | तदुताद् महाराजो भवति उत महाब्राह्मणः उत उच्चावचं निगच्छति | स यथा महाराजो जानपदान्गृहीत्वा स्वे जनपदे यथाकामं परिवर्तेत एवमेवैष एतत्प्राणान्गृहीत्वा स्वे शरीरे यथाकामं परिवर्तते ॥

sa yatra svapnya charati te hasya lokah | tad utad maharajo bhavati uta mahabrahmanah uta uchchavacham nigachchhati | sa yatha maharajo janapadaan grihitva sve janapade yathakamam parivarteta evam evaisha etat pranan grihitva sve sharire yathakamam parivartate ||

When he dreams, those are his worlds. He becomes, as it were, a great king or a great brahmana; he enters, as it were, states high and low. Just as a great king, taking his people, moves about in his own domain as he pleases, so also this person, taking the senses, moves about in his own body as he pleases.

जब वह स्वप्न में विचरता है — वे उसके लोक होते हैं। वह मानो महाराज बन जाता है, मानो महाब्राह्मण बन जाता है, या ऊँच-नीच अवस्थाओं में जाता है। जैसे महाराज अपनी प्रजा को लेकर अपने राज्य में इच्छानुसार विचरता है — वैसे ही यह पुरुष प्राणों को लेकर अपने शरीर में इच्छानुसार विचरता है।
