Brihadaranyaka Upanishad 3.18

तमपृच्छाम क्व पारिक्षिता अभवन्निति | सोऽब्रवीद्गच्छत यत्राश्वमेधयाजिनो लोकस्तत्र पारिक्षिता अभवन्निति | क्व न्वश्वमेधयाजिनां लोक इति | द्वात्रिंशतं वै देवरथाह्न्यानि अयं लोकस्तं समन्तं पृथिवी द्विस्तावत्परियेति | तां समन्तां पृथिवीं द्विस्तावत्समुद्रो अभितो वलयतीति | ततो ह भुज्युर्लाह्यायनिरुपरराम ॥

tam aprichchhama kva parikshita abhavann iti | so'bravid gachchhata yatra ashvamedhayajino lokas tatra parikshita abhavann iti | kva nv ashvamedhayajinaam loka iti | dvatrimshatam vai devarathaahnyani ayam lokas tam samantam prithivi dvis tavat pariyeti | tam samantam prithivim dvis tavat samudro abhito valayatiti | tato ha bhujyur lahyayanir upararama ||

'We asked him: where did the descendants of Parikshit go? He said: go where the world of those who have performed the Ashvamedha sacrifice is — there the Parikshitas went. Where then is the world of the Ashvamedha performers? Thirty-two days' journey of the sun-chariot is this world. The earth, twice as wide, surrounds it. The ocean, twice as wide, surrounds the earth.' Thereupon Bhujyu, the son of Lahya, held his peace.

'हमने पूछा — परीक्षित-वंशी कहाँ गए? उसने कहा — जहाँ अश्वमेध-यजमानों का लोक है, वहीं परीक्षित-वंशी पहुँच गए। तब फिर अश्वमेध-यजमानों का लोक कहाँ है? बत्तीस सूर्य-रथ-दिन-यात्रा जितना यह लोक है, उसे चारों ओर से पृथिवी दूनी होकर घेरे है, और उस पृथिवी को चारों ओर से समुद्र दूना होकर घेरे है।' इसके बाद लाह्यायनि भुज्यु चुप हो गए।
