Brihadaranyaka Upanishad 3.21

atha hainam kaholah kaushitakeyah paprachchha | yajnavalkya iti hovacha | yat sakshad aparokshad brahma ya atma sarvantaras tam me vyachakshveti | esha ta atma sarvantarah | katamah sarvantaro yajnavalkyeti | yo ashanaya pipase shokam moham jaram mrityum atyeti | etam eva vai tam atmanam viditva brahmanah putraishanayas cha vittaishanayas cha lokaishanayas cha vyutthaya atha bhikshaacharyam charanti | esha netity atma | agrihyo na hi grihyate | ashiryo na hi shiryate | asango na hi sajyate | asito na vyathate na rishyati | tato ha kaholah kaushitakeya upararama ||

Then Kahola, the son of Kushitaka, questioned him: 'Yajnavalkya, show me the Brahman that is immediate and direct — the Self that is within all.' 'This is your Self that is within all.' 'Which one is within all, Yajnavalkya?' 'He who transcends hunger and thirst, grief and delusion, old age and death. Knowing this very Self, the brahmins rise above the desire for sons, the desire for wealth, and the desire for worlds, and lead the life of mendicants. This Self is described as "not this, not this" (neti neti). It is ungraspable, for it cannot be grasped. It is indestructible, for it cannot be destroyed. It is unattached, for it does not attach itself. It is unfettered — it does not suffer, it is not injured.' Thereupon Kahola, the son of Kushitaka, held his peace.
