Brihadaranyaka Upanishad 4.27

ज्योतिरेवैकं मनुष्यस्य आत्मा इत्यपि जनकः पृच्छति — कतमस्स आत्मेति । यो अयं विज्ञानमयः प्राणेषु हृद्यन्तर्ज्योतिः पुरुषः स समानः सन्नुभौ लोकावनुसञ्चरति ध्यायतीव लेलायतीव ॥

jyotir evaikam manushyasya aatmaa ity api janakah prichchhati — katamass sa aatmeti | yo ayam vijnaanamayah praaneshuh ridyantar jyotih purushah sa samaanah sann ubhau lokaav anusancharati dhyaayatiiva lelaayatiiva

'The Self alone is the light of a person,' Janaka again asks: 'Which is that Self?' 'It is the person identified with the intellect, the light within the heart that is among the vital breaths. Remaining the same, he travels along both worlds, seeming to think, seeming to move.'

'मनुष्य की एकमात्र ज्योति आत्मा ही है' — जनक पुनः पूछते हैं — 'वह आत्मा कौन है?' 'जो यह विज्ञानमय पुरुष है, जो प्राणों के बीच, हृदय के भीतर, ज्योति-रूप पुरुष है — वही समान रहते हुए दोनों लोकों में विचरण करता है, मानो ध्यान कर रहा हो, मानो हिल रहा हो।'
