Brihadaranyaka Upanishad 4.58

तद्यथा प्रियया स्त्रिया सम्परिष्वक्तो न बाह्यं किंचन वेद नान्तरम् एवमेवायं पुरुषः प्राज्ञेनात्मना सम्परिष्वक्तो न बाह्यं किंचन वेद नान्तरम् तद्वा अस्यैतदाप्तकाममात्मकामं अकामं रूपं शोकान्तरम् ॥

tad yathaa priyayaa striyaa samparishvakto na baahyam kinchana veda naantaram evam evaayam purushah praajnenaa tmanaa samparishvakto na baahyam kinchana veda naantaram tadvaa asyaitad aaptakaaam aatmakaaamam akaamam ruupam shokaantaram

Just as a man in the embrace of his beloved wife knows nothing that is without, nothing that is within, even so this person, when embraced by the intelligent Self (in deep sleep), knows nothing that is without, nothing that is within. That is his form in which all desires are fulfilled, in which the Self alone is the desire, in which there is no desire — that is the form free from sorrow.

जैसे प्रिय पत्नी के आलिङ्गन में बद्ध पुरुष न बाहर का कुछ जानता है, न भीतर का — वैसे ही यह पुरुष प्राज्ञ-आत्मा (सुषुप्ति-आत्मा) के आलिङ्गन में बद्ध होकर न बाहर का कुछ जानता है, न भीतर का। यही उसकी आप्तकाम (सब इच्छाएँ पूर्ण), आत्मकाम (केवल आत्मा की इच्छा), अकाम (इच्छा-शून्य), शोक-रहित अवस्था है।
