Brihadaranyaka Upanishad 4.63

न वा अरे पत्युः कामाय पतिः प्रियो भवति आत्मनस्तु कामाय पतिः प्रियो भवति न वा अरे जायायै कामाय जाया प्रिया भवति आत्मनस्तु कामाय जाया प्रिया भवति ॥

na vaa are patyuh kaamaaya patih priyo bhavati aatmanastu kaamaaya patih priyo bhavati na vaa are jaayayai kaamaaya jaayaa priyaa bhavati aatmanastu kaamaaya jaayaa priyaa bhavati

'Verily, not for the sake of the husband, my dear, is the husband loved, but for the sake of the Self is the husband loved. Verily, not for the sake of the wife is the wife loved, but for the sake of the Self is the wife loved.'

'मैत्रेयि! न पति के लिए पति प्रिय होता है — आत्मा के लिए ही पति प्रिय होता है। न पत्नी के लिए पत्नी प्रिय होती है — आत्मा के लिए ही पत्नी प्रिय होती है।'
