Brihadaranyaka Upanishad 5.14

अयमाग्निर्वैश्वानरो योऽयमन्तः पुरुषे, येनेदमन्नं पच्यते यदिदमद्यते; तस्यैष घोषो भवति यमेतत्कर्णावपिधाय शृणोति; स यदोत्क्रमिष्यन्भवति नैनं घोषं शृणोति ॥

ayamaagnirvaishvaanaro yo'yamantah purushe, yenedamannam pachyate yadidamadyate; tasyaisha ghosho bhavati yametatkarnaavapidhaya shrinoti; sa yadotkramishyanbhavati nainam ghosham shrinoti

This fire that is within a person, by which the food that is eaten is digested, is Vaishvanara. It is its sound that one hears by stopping the ears thus. When one is about to depart from the body, one no longer hears this sound.

जो यह पुरुष के भीतर अग्नि है, जिसके द्वारा खाया हुआ अन्न पकता है, वही वैश्वानर है। उसी की वह ध्वनि है जो कानों को बन्द करने पर सुनाई देती है। जब साधक देहत्याग करने वाला होता है, तब वह इस ध्वनि को नहीं सुनता।
