Brihadaranyaka Upanishad 6.16

वेत्थ यथेमाः प्रजाः प्रयत्यो विप्रतिपद्यन्त इति; नेति होवाच; वेत्थ यथेमं लोकं पुनरापद्यन्त इति; नेति होवाच; वेत्थ पथोर्देवयानस्य पितृयाणस्य च व्यावर्तनम् इति; नेति होवाच ॥

vettha yathemaah prajaah prayatyo vipratipadyanta iti; neti hovaacha; vettha yathemam lokam punarapadyanta iti; neti hovaacha; vettha pathordevayaanasya pitriyaanasya cha vyaavartanam iti; neti hovaacha

'Do you know how beings, when they depart, go to different paths?' 'No, sir.' 'Do you know how they return to this world?' 'No, sir.' 'Do you know the point of divergence between the path of the gods (Devayana) and the path of the ancestors (Pitriyana)?' 'No, sir.'

‘क्या तुम जानते हो कि प्रजा प्रयाण के समय भिन्न-भिन्न मार्गों में कैसे विभक्त होती है?’ ‘नहीं।’ ‘क्या तुम जानते हो कि वे इस लोक में पुनः कैसे आती हैं?’ ‘नहीं।’ ‘क्या तुम जानते हो — देवयान और पितृयाण मार्गों के विभाजन-स्थल को?’ ‘नहीं।’
