Brihadaranyaka Upanishad 6.38

स एतं प्रायणीयमिष्टिं यजति — यदमुं लोकमेष्यन्मन्यते; अथवा शिष्यमनुशास्ति; स यदि कथं चनाकीर्ये — अद्भिश्चायमुपनिपद्यत इति ॥

sa etam praayaniiyamishtim yajati — yadamum lokameshyanmanyate; athavaa shishyamanushaasti; sa yadi katham chanaakirye — adbhishchaayamupanipadyata iti

He performs this Prayaniya sacrifice when he thinks he is about to depart to the other world, or alternatively, he instructs a student. If for any reason he becomes impure, he purifies himself with water.

वह यह प्रायणीय इष्टि करता है — जब वह सोचता है कि ‘मैं उस लोक को जाने वाला हूँ’; अथवा जब वह शिष्य को उपदेश देता है। यदि किसी कारण वह अशुद्ध हो जाए, तो जल से अपने को शुद्ध कर ले।
