Brihadaranyaka Upanishad 6.67

अथ सम्पन्ने — पुत्रमभिनन्द्य; अपो न्यायत्, कुम्भं निदधाति; स्तन्यं प्रदाय तस्य मूर्धनि गन्धं कुर्यात्; त्रिरवगृह्य जपति — सहस्रं ते अयुतम्; त्वं पोषमसि; सा मा यथा विन्दो ब्रह्मवर्चसेन सुप्रजाः सर्वमायुरिति ॥

atha sampanne — putramaabhinandya; apo nyaayat, kumbham nidadhaati; stanyam pradaaya tasya muurddhani gandham kuryaat; triravagriihya japati — sahasram te ayutam; tvam poshamasi; saa maa yathaa vindo brahmavarcase suprajaah sarvamaayuriti

When the child is born, he rejoices over the son. He brings water, places a pot, and having given the breast-milk, he anoints the head of the child with fragrance. Touching the child three times, he recites: 'A thousand to you, ten thousand! You are nourishment! May I thrive with sacred knowledge, with good offspring, with a full span of life.'

जब (पुत्र) सम्पन्न हो जाता है — तो वह पुत्र का अभिनन्दन करते हुए — जल लाकर रखता है, घट स्थापित करता है। स्तन-पान कराकर उसके मस्तक पर सुगन्ध लगाता है। तीन बार अवगृह्य जप करता है — ‘तेरे लिए सहस्र, अयुत हो; तू पुष्टि-स्वरूप है। मैं ब्रह्मवर्चस् से, सुप्रजा से, पूर्ण आयु से तेरे साथ समृद्ध होऊँ।’
