Chandogya Upanishad 1.10

तेनोभौ कुरुतो यश्चैतदेवं वेद यश्च न वेद । नाना तु विद्या चाविद्या च यदेव विद्यया करोति श्रद्धयोपनिषदा तदेव वीर्यवत्तरं भवतीति खल्वेतस्यैवाक्षरस्योपव्याख्यानं भवति ॥ १० ॥

1.1.10 — tenobhau kuruto yashchaitadevam veda yashcha na veda | nana tu vidya chavidya cha yadeva vidyaya karoti shraddhayopanishada tadeva viryavattaram bhavatiti khalvetasyaivaksharasyopavyakhyanam bhavati || 10 ||

Now therefore it would seem to follow, that both he who knows this (the true meaning of the syllable Om), and he who does not, perform the same sacrifice. But this is not so, for knowledge and ignorance are different. The sacrifice which a man performs with knowledge, faith, and the Upanishad is more powerful. This is the full account of the syllable Om.

इससे प्रतीत होता है कि जो जानता है और जो नहीं जानता — दोनों एक ही कर्म करते हैं। किन्तु विद्या और अविद्या भिन्न हैं; जो विद्या, श्रद्धा और उपनिषद्-रहस्य के साथ करता है, वही अधिक वीर्यवान् (प्रबल) होता है। यह इसी अक्षर की समग्र व्याख्या है।
