Chandogya Upanishad 1.36

ओमित्येतदक्षरमुद्गीथमुपासीतोमिति ह्युद्गायति तस्योपव्याख्यानम् ॥ १ ॥

1.4.1 — omityetadaksharamudgithamupasitomiti hyudgayati tasyopavyakhyanam || 1 ||

Let a man meditate on the syllable Om, for the udgîtha is sung beginning with Om. And this is the full account of the syllable Om:—

ओम्-रूपी इस अक्षर की उद्गीथ-रूप में उपासना करें; क्योंकि उद्गान 'ओम्' कहकर ही आरम्भ होता है। यही इसकी व्याख्या है।
