Chandogya Upanishad 1.53

तस्यर्क्च साम च गेष्णौ तस्मादुद्गीथस्तस्मात्त्वेवोद्गातैतस्य हि गाता स एष ये चामुष्मात्पराञ्चो लोकास्तेषां चेष्टे देवकामानां चेत्यधिदैवतम् ॥ ८ ॥

1.6.8 — tasyarkcha sama cha geshnau tasmadudgithastasmattvevodgataitasya hi gata sa esha ye chamushmatparancho lokastesham cheshte devakamanam chetyadhidaivatam || 8 ||

Rik and Sâman are his joints, and therefore he is udgîtha. And therefore he who praises him ​(the ut) is called the Ud-gâtri (the out-singer). He (the golden person, called ut) is lord of the worlds beyond that (sun), and of all the wishes of the Devas (inhabiting those worlds). So much with reference to the Devas.

ऋक् और साम उसके दोनों पर्व (गेष्णौ — गाँठें) हैं; इसीलिए वह उद्गीथ है। जो उसकी स्तुति करता है, वही उद्गाता है। वह उस सूर्य-लोक से परे जितने लोक हैं, उनका तथा देवताओं की कामनाओं का अधीश्वर है। — इतना अधिदैवत।
