Chandogya Upanishad 1.71

अस्य लोकस्य का गतिरित्याकाश इति होवाच सर्वाणि ह वा इमानि भूतान्याकाशादेव समुत्पद्यन्त आकाशं प्रत्यस्तं यन्त्याकाशो ह्येवैभ्यो ज्यायानकाशः परायणम् ॥ १ ॥

1.9.1 — asya lokasya ka gatirityakasha iti hovacha sarvani ha va imani bhutanyakashadeva samutpadyanta aakasham pratyastam yantyakasho hyevaibhyo jyayanakashah parayanam || 1 ||

'What is the origin of this world?' 'Ether,' he replied. For all these beings take their rise from the ether, and return into the ether. Ether is older than these, ether is their rest.

'इस लोक (पृथ्वी) की गति क्या है?' — 'आकाश' — प्रवाहण ने कहा। 'ये समस्त भूत आकाश से ही उत्पन्न होते हैं और आकाश में ही लय को प्राप्त होते हैं; आकाश ही इन सबसे ज्यायान् (ज्येष्ठ-श्रेष्ठ) है, आकाश ही परायण (अन्तिम आश्रय) है।'
