Chandogya Upanishad 2.31

उद्गीथ इति त्र्यक्षरमुपद्रव इति चतुरक्षरं त्रिभिस्त्रिभिः समं भवत्यक्षरमतिशिष्यते त्र्यक्षरं तत्समम् ॥ ३ ॥

2.10.3 — udgitha iti tryaksharamupadrava iti chaturaksharam tribhistribhih samam bhavatyaksharamatishishyate tryaksharam tatsamam || 3 ||

The word udgîtha has three syllables, the word upadrava has four syllables. With three and three syllables it should be equal. One syllable being left over, it becomes trisyllabic. Hence it is equal.

'उद्गीथ' शब्द त्र्यक्षर है, 'उपद्रव' शब्द चतुरक्षर; तीन-तीन से वे सम होते हैं, और एक अक्षर शेष रह जाता है — त्र्यक्षर होने से वह भी सम है।
