Chandogya Upanishad 2.41

उद्यन्हिङ्कार उदितः प्रस्तावो मध्यन्दिन उद्गीथोऽपराह्णः प्रतिहारोऽस्तं यन्निधनमेतद्बृहदादित्ये प्रोतम् ॥ १ ॥

2.14.1 — udyanhinkara uditah prastavo madhyandina udgitho'parahnah pratiharo'stam yannidhanametadbrihadaditye protam || 1 ||

Rising, the sun is the hinkâra, risen, he is the prastâva, at noon he is the udgîtha, in the afternoon he is the pratihâra, setting, he is the nidhana. That is the Brihat Sâman as interwoven in the sun.

उदयोन्मुख आदित्य हिङ्कार है, उदित आदित्य प्रस्ताव, मध्याह्न-आदित्य उद्गीथ, अपराह्न-आदित्य प्रतिहार, अस्तोन्मुख आदित्य निधन — यह बृहत्-साम है, आदित्य में अनुस्यूत।
