Chandogya Upanishad 2.46

स य एवमेतद्वैराजमृतुषु प्रोतं वेद विराजति प्रजया पशुभिर्ब्रह्मवर्चसेन सर्वमायुरेति ज्योग्जीवति महान्प्रजया पशुभिर्भवति महान्कीर्त्यर्तून्न निन्देत्तद्व्रतम् ॥ २ ॥

2.16.2 — sa ya evametadvairajamritushu protam veda virajati prajaya pashubhirbrahmavarchasena sarvamayureti jyogjivati mahanprajaya pashubhirbhavati mahankirtyartunna nindettadvratam || 2 ||

He who thus knows the Vairâga, as interwoven in the seasons, shines (virâgati) through children, cattle, and glory of countenance. He reaches the full life, he lives long, becomes great with children and cattle, great by fame. His rule is, 'Never complain of the seasons.'

जो इस वैराज-साम को ऋतुओं में अनुस्यूत जानता है, वह प्रजा, पशु और ब्रह्मवर्चस् से विराजित होता है, पूर्ण आयु पाता है, दीर्घकाल जीता है, प्रजा और पशुओं से महान् होता है, कीर्ति से महान् होता है। 'ऋतुओं की निन्दा न करे' — यह उसका व्रत है।
