Chandogya Upanishad 2.5

लोकेषु पञ्चविधꣳ सामोपासीत पृथिवी हिङ्कारोऽग्निः प्रस्तावोऽन्तरिक्षमुद्गीथ आदित्यः प्रतिहारो द्यौर्निधनमित्यूर्ध्वेषु ॥ १ ॥

2.2.1 — lokeshu panchavidham samopasita prithivi hinkaro'gnih prastavo'ntarikshamudgitha aadityah pratiharo dyaurnidhanamityurdhveshu || 1 ||

Let a man meditate on the fivefold Sâman as the five worlds. The hinkâra is the earth, the prastâva the fire, the udgîtha the sky, the pratihâra the sun, the nidhana heaven; so in an ascending line.

लोकों में पाँच-प्रकार के साम की उपासना करनी चाहिए। पृथ्वी हिङ्कार है, अग्नि प्रस्ताव, अन्तरिक्ष उद्गीथ, आदित्य प्रतिहार, और द्युलोक निधन — यह ऊर्ध्व-क्रम है।
