Chandogya Upanishad 2.65

प्रजापतिर्लोकानभ्यतपत्तेभ्योऽभितप्तेभ्यस्त्रयी विद्या संप्रास्रवत्तामभ्यतपत्तस्या अभितप्ताया एतान्यक्षराणि संप्रास्र्वन्त भूर्भुवः स्वरिति ॥ २ ॥

2.23.2 — prajapatirlokanabhyatapattebhyo'bhitaptebhyastrayi vidya samprasravattamabhyatapattasya abhitaptaya etanyaksharani samprasrvanta bhurbhuvah svariti || 2 ||

Austerity the second, and to dwell as a Brahmakârin in the house of a tutor, always mortifying the body in the house of a tutor, is the third. All these obtain the worlds of the blessed; but the Brahmasamstha alone (he who is firmly grounded in Brahman) obtains immortality.

प्रजापति ने लोकों पर तप किया; उन तप्त लोकों से त्रयी-विद्या (ऋक्, यजुस्, साम) निःसृत हुई; उस त्रयी पर तप किया, और उस तप्त त्रयी से ये अक्षर निःसृत हुए — 'भूः', 'भुवः', 'स्वः'।
