Chandogya Upanishad 4.72

स एतां त्रयीं विद्यामभ्यतपत्तस्यास्तप्यमानाया रसान्प्रावृहद्भूरित्यृग्भ्यो भुवरिति यजुर्भ्यः स्वरिति सामभ्यः ॥ ३ ॥

4.17.3 — sa etam trayim vidyamabhyatapattasyastapyamanaya rasanpravrihadbhurityrigbhyo bhuvariti yajurbhyah svariti samabhyah || 3 ||

He brooded over the threefold knowledge (the three Vedas), and from it thus brooded on he squeezed out the essences, the sacred interjection Bhûs from the Rik verses, the sacred interjection Bhuvas from the Yagus verses, the sacred interjection Svar from the Sâman verses.

उसने उस त्रयी-विद्या पर तप किया; इस प्रकार अभितप्त उससे उसके रसों को निकाल लिया — ऋचाओं से 'भूः', यजुओं से 'भुवः', सामनों से 'स्वः' — ये सारभूत व्याहृतियाँ।
