Chandogya Upanishad 5.17

स होवाच किं मे वासो भविष्यतीत्याप इति होचुस्तस्माद्वा एतदशिष्यन्तः पुरस्ताच्चोपरिष्टाच्चाद्भिः परिदधति लम्भुको ह वासो भवत्यनग्नो ह भवति ॥ २ ॥

5.2.2 — sa hovacha kim me vaso bhavishyatityapa iti hochustasmadva etadashishyantah purastachchoparishtachchadbhih paridadhati lambhuko ha vaso bhavatyanagno ha bhavati || 2 ||

It said: * What will be my garment ? ' Water,5 they said. Therefore, verily, when people are about to eat, they enswathe it [Le. the breath] with water both before and after.1 It Is accustomed to receive a garment; it becomes not naked. When Satyakama Jabala told this to Gosruti Vaiyagra- padya, he also said: c Even if one should tell this to a dried-up stump, branches would be produced on it and leaves would spring forth.' उसने पूछा — 'मेरा वस्त्र क्या होगा?' उन्होंने कहा — 'जल।' इसलिए भोजन करने वाले लोग पहले तथा बाद में — दोनों ओर — प्राण को जल से ढाँक देते हैं। तब प्राण को वस्त्र मिल जाता है और वह नग्न नहीं रहता।
