Chandogya Upanishad 6.19

यद्विद्युतो रोहितँरूपं तेजसस्तद्रूपं यच्छुक्लं तदपां यत्कृष्णं तदन्नस्यापागाद्विद्युतो विद्युत्त्वं वाचारम्भणं विकारो नामधेयं त्रीणि रूपाणीत्येव सत्यम् ॥ ४ ॥

6.4.4 — yadvidyuto rohitanrupam tejasastadrupam yachchhuklam tadapam yatkrishnam tadannasyapagadvidyuto vidyuttvam vacharambhanam vikaro namadheyam trini rupanityeva satyam || 4 ||

'The red colour of the lightning is the colour of fire, the white of water, the black of earth. Thus ​vanishes what we call the lightning, as a mere variety, being a name, arising from speech. What is true are the three colours.

'विद्युत् का जो लाल रूप है वह तेज का है, जो श्वेत है वह जल का, जो कृष्ण है वह अन्न का। इस प्रकार विद्युत् का विद्युत्त्व विलीन हो जाता है — विकार नाम-मात्र है; सत्य तो केवल तीन रूप हैं।'
