Chandogya Upanishad 6.67

पुरुषँ सोम्योत हस्तगृहीतमानयन्त्यपहार्षीत्स्तेयमकार्षीत्परशुमस्मै तपतेति स यदि तस्य कर्ता भवति तत एवानृतमात्मानं कुरुते सोऽनृताभिसन्धोऽनृतेनात्मानमन्तर्धाय परशुं तप्तं प्रतिगृह्णाति स दह्यतेऽथ हन्यते ॥ १ ॥

6.16.1 — purushan somyota hastagrihitamanayantyapaharshitsteyamakarshitparashumasmai tapateti sa yadi tasya karta bhavati tata evanritamatmanam kurute so'nritabhisandho'nritenatmanamantardhaya parashum taptam pratigrihnati sa dahyate'tha hanyate || 1 ||

'My child, they bring a man hither whom they have taken by the hand, and they say: "He has taken something, he has committed a theft." (When ​he denies, they say), "Heat the hatchet for him." If he committed the theft, then he makes himself to be what he is not. Then the false-minded, having covered his true Self by a falsehood, grasps the heated hatchet—he is burnt, and he is killed.

'हे सौम्य, किसी पुरुष को हाथ पकड़कर लाते हैं और कहते हैं — "इसने चुराया, इसने चोरी की; इसके लिए परशु तपाओ।" यदि वह सचमुच कर्ता है, तो वह स्वयं को अनृत (असत्य) बना लेता है; अनृत की ओट में अपने आत्मा को छिपाकर तप्त परशु पकड़ता है — वह जल जाता है और मारा जाता है।'
