Chandogya Upanishad 7.14

तानि ह वा एतानि चित्तैकायनानि चित्तात्मानि चित्ते प्रतिष्ठितानि तस्माद्यद्यपि बहुविदचित्तो भवति नायमस्तीत्येवैनमाहुर्यदयं वेद यद्वा अयं विद्वान्नेत्थमचित्तः स्यादित्यथ यद्यल्पविच्चित्तवान्भवति तस्मा एवोत शुश्रूषन्ते चित्तँह्येवैषामेकायनं चित्तमात्मा चित्तं प्रतिष्ठा चित्तमुपास्स्वेति ॥ २ ॥

7.5.2 — tani ha va etani chittaikayanani chittatmani chitte pratishthitani tasmadyadyapi bahuvidachitto bhavati nayamastityevainamahuryadayam veda yadva ayam vidvannetthamachittah syadityatha yadyalpavichchittavanbhavati tasma evota shushrushante chittanhyevaishamekayanam chittamatma chittam pratishtha chittamupassveti || 2 ||

'All these (beginning with mind and ending in sacrifice) centre in consideration, consist of consideration, abide in consideration. Therefore if a man is inconsiderate, even if he possesses much learning, people say of him, he is nothing, whatever he may know; for, if he were learned, he would not be so inconsiderate. But if a man is considerate, even though he knows but little, to him indeed do people listen gladly. Consideration is the centre, consideration is the self, consideration is the support of all these. Meditate on consideration.

'ये सब चित्त में ही एकायन हैं, चित्तात्मक हैं, चित्त में प्रतिष्ठित हैं। इसलिये यदि कोई बहुज्ञ होकर भी अचित्त है, तो लोग कहते हैं — 'यह कुछ नहीं है, चाहे जो जाने; होता तो अचित्त न होता।' और यदि कोई अल्पज्ञ होकर भी चित्तवान् है, तो लोग उसकी ही बातें सुनना चाहते हैं। चित्त ही इन सबका एकायन है, चित्त आत्मा है, चित्त प्रतिष्ठा है। चित्त की उपासना करो।'
