Chandogya Upanishad 7.47

गो-अश्वमिह महिमेत्याचक्षते हस्तिहिरण्यं दासभार्यं क्षेत्राण्यायतनानीति नाहमेवं ब्रवीमि ब्रवीमीति होवाचान्योह्यन्यस्मिन्प्रतिष्ठित इति ॥ २ ॥

7.24.2 — go-ashvamiha mahimetyachakshate hastihiranyam dasabharyam kshetranyayatananiti nahamevam bravimi bravimiti hovachanyohyanyasminpratishthita iti || 2 ||

'In the world they call cows and horses, elephants and gold, slaves, wives, fields and houses greatness. I do not mean this,' thus he spoke; 'for in that case one being (the possessor) rests in something else, (but the Infinite cannot rest in something different from itself.)

'लोग यहाँ गाय-घोड़े, हाथी-सोना, दास-स्त्री, क्षेत्र-आयतन — इन्हें महिमा कहते हैं। मैं ऐसा नहीं कहता, मैं ऐसा नहीं कहता' — ऐसा उन्होंने कहा; 'क्योंकि वहाँ एक वस्तु दूसरी में प्रतिष्ठित होती है।'
