Chandogya Upanishad 8.17

त इमे सत्याः कामा अनृतापिधानास्तेषाꣳ सत्यानाꣳ सतामनृतमपिधानं यो यो ह्यस्येतः प्रैति न तमिह दर्शनाय लभते ॥ १ ॥

8.3.1 — ta ime satyah kama anritapidhanastesham satyanam satamanritamapidhanam yo yo hyasyetah praiti na tamiha darshanaya labhate || 1 ||

'These true desires, however, are hidden by what is false; though the desires be true, they have a covering which is false. Thus, whoever belonging to us has departed this life, him we cannot gain back, so that we should see him with our eyes.

'ये सब सत्य कामनाएँ हैं, पर अनृत से आच्छादित हैं। सत्य होते हुए भी उनका आवरण अनृत है। जो हमारा कोई यहाँ से विदा हो जाता है, उसे हम यहाँ दर्शन के लिये प्राप्त नहीं कर पाते।'
