Dhammapada 12.3

अत्तानं चे तथा कयिरा यथञ्ञमनुसासति | सुदन्तो वत दमेय्य अत्ता हि किर दुद्दमो ॥

attanam che tatha kayira yathannamanusasati | sudanto vata dameyya atta hi kira duddamo ||

As one instructs others, so should one act oneself. Only the well-disciplined should discipline others. Truly, the self is difficult to tame.

जैसा दूसरों को अनुशासित करे, वैसा ही स्वयं भी आचरण करे। जो भली-भाँति दमित है वही दूसरों को दमित कर सकता है; आत्मा वास्तव में दमन करने में कठिन है।
