Dhammapada 19.12

योध पुञ्ञञ्च पापञ्च, बाहेत्वा ब्रह्मचरियवा। सङ्खाय लोके चरति, स वे भिक्खू ति वुच्चति॥

yodha punnanca papanca, bahetva brahmacariyava; sankhaya loke carati, sa ve bhikkhu ti vuccati.

One who herein has transcended both merit and demerit, who lives the holy life, and walks with understanding in this world — such a one is truly called a monk.

जो इस लोक में पुण्य और पाप दोनों को त्यागकर, ब्रह्मचर्य-धर्म में रहते हुए, विवेकपूर्वक विचरता है — वह सचमुच भिक्षु कहलाता है।
