Dhammapada 24.12

न तं दळ्हं बन्धनमाहु धीरा यदायसं दारुजपब्बजञ्च। सारत्तरत्ता मणिकुण्डलेसु पुत्तेसु दारेसु च या अपेक्खा॥

na tam dalham bandhanamahu dhira yadayasam darujapabbajanca, sarattaratta manikundalesu puttesu daresu ca ya apekkha.

That is not a strong bond, say the wise, which is made of iron, wood, or fiber. Rather, the longing for jewels and ornaments, children and wives — that is the strong bond.

धीर पुरुष कहते हैं — लोहे, काठ या रस्सी का बंधन उतना दृढ़ नहीं; मणि-कुंडलों के प्रति रागासक्ति, और पुत्र-दार के प्रति अपेक्षा — यही दृढ़ बंधन है।
