Dhammapada 24.22

हनन्ति भोगा दुम्मेधं नो च पारगवेसिनो। भोगतण्हाय दुम्मेधो हन्ति अञ्ञे'व अत्तनं॥

hananti bhoga dummedham no ca paragavesino, bhogatanhaya dummedho hanti anne'va attanam.

Riches ruin the fool, but not the one seeking the beyond. Through craving for riches, the fool ruins oneself just as one ruins others.

भोग दुर्मेध (मूढ़) को नष्ट कर देते हैं, किंतु पारगवेषी को नहीं। दुर्मेध भोग-तृष्णा से जैसे दूसरों को नष्ट करता है, वैसे ही स्वयं को भी नष्ट कर लेता है।
