Dhammapada 26.16

छेत्वा नद्धिं वरत्तञ्च सन्दामं सहनुक्कमं। उक्खित्तपलिघं बुद्धं तमहं ब्रूमि ब्राह्मणं॥

chetva naddhim varattanca sandamam sahanukkamam, ukkhittapaligham buddham tamaham brumi brahmanam.

One who has cut the strap (hatred), the thong (craving), and the rope (heresies) together with the appurtenances (latent tendencies), who has removed the crossbar (ignorance), who is enlightened — that one I call a brahmana.

जिसने तस्मा (द्वेष की पट्टी), वरत्रा (तृष्णा का चर्म-बंधन), और सन्दाम (दृष्टियों की रस्सी) को सहायक उपकरणों (अनुशयों) सहित काट दिया है, जिसने परिघ (अविद्या के अर्गल) को उठा दिया है, जो बुद्ध (जागृत) है — उसे मैं ब्राह्मण कहता हूँ।
