Dhammapada 26.23

निधाय दण्डं भूतेसु तसेसु थावरेसु च। यो न हन्ति न घातेति तमहं ब्रूमि ब्राह्मणं॥

nidhaya dandam bhutesu tasesu thavaresu ca, yo na hanti na ghateti tamaham brumi brahmanam.

One who has laid aside the rod toward beings, whether moving or still, who neither kills nor causes killing — that one I call a brahmana.

जो त्रस और स्थावर प्राणियों के प्रति दंड को नीचे रख देता है, जो स्वयं नहीं मारता और न मरवाता है — उसे मैं ब्राह्मण कहता हूँ।
