Dhammapada 26.5

दिवा तपति आदिच्चो रत्तिमाभाति चन्दिमा। सन्नद्धो खत्तियो तपति झायी तपति ब्राह्मणो। अथ सब्बमहोरत्तिं बुद्धो तपति तेजसा॥

diva tapati adicco rattimabhati candima, sannadddho khattiyo tapati jhayi tapati brahmano, atha sabbamahorattim buddho tapati tejasa.

The sun shines by day; the moon shines by night. The warrior shines in armor; the brahmana shines in meditation. But the Buddha shines resplendent all day and all night.

दिन में सूर्य तपता है, रात्रि में चंद्रमा प्रकाशित होता है; क्षत्रिय कवच पहने हुए तपता है, ब्राह्मण ध्यान में तपता है — किंतु बुद्ध दिन-रात अपने तेज से तपते हैं।
