Guru Granth Sahib 1.9

ਸੁਣਿਐ ਈਸਰੁ ਬਰਮਾ ਇੰਦੁ ॥ ਸੁਣਿਐ ਮੁਖਿ ਸਾਲਾਹਣ ਮੰਦੁ ॥ ਸੁਣਿਐ ਜੋਗ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਤਨਿ ਭੇਦ ॥ ਸੁਣਿਐ ਸਾਸਤ ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਵੇਦ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਭਗਤਾ ਸਦਾ ਵਿਗਾਸੁ ॥ ਸੁਣਿਐ ਦੂਖ ਪਾਪ ਕਾ ਨਾਸੁ ॥੮॥

suniai eesar barmaa ind. suniai mukh saalaahan mand. suniai jog jugat tan bhed. suniai saasat simrit ved. naanak bhagtaa sadaa vigaas. suniai dookh paap kaa naas.

Listening — one becomes like Shiva, Brahma, and Indra. Listening — even foul-mouthed people praise Him. Listening — the technology of Yoga and the secrets of the body. Listening — the Shastras, the Smritis and the Vedas. O Nanak, the devotees are forever in bliss. Listening — pain and sin are erased.

सुनने से — (मनुष्य) ईश्वर, ब्रह्मा, इंद्र-सदृश हो जाता है। सुनने से — निन्दक भी मुख से प्रशंसा करने लगता है। सुनने से — योग की युक्ति और शरीर के रहस्य (प्रकट होते हैं)। सुनने से — शास्त्र, स्मृति, वेद (ज्ञात होते हैं)। हे नानक, भक्त सदा प्रसन्न रहते हैं। सुनने से — दुख और पाप का नाश होता है।
