Guru Granth Sahib 2.23

ਏ ਸ੍ਰਵਣਹੁ ਮੇਰਿਹੋ ਸਾਚੈ ਸੁਨਣੈ ਨੋ ਪਠਾਏ ॥ ਸਾਚੈ ਸੁਨਣੈ ਨੋ ਪਠਾਏ ਸਰੀਰਿ ਲਾਏ ਸੁਣਹੁ ਸਤਿ ਬਾਣੀ ॥ ਜਿਤੁ ਸੁਣੀ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਹਰਿਆ ਹੋਆ ਰਸਨਾ ਰਸਿ ਸਮਾਣੀ ॥ ਸਚੁ ਅਲਖ ਵਿਡਾਣੀ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਗਤਿ ਕਹੀ ਨ ਜਾਏ ॥ ਕਹੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬਾਣੀ ਸੁਣੀਐ ਸ੍ਰਵਣਹੁ ਸਾਚੈ ਸੁਨਣੈ ਨੋ ਪਠਾਏ ॥੨੩॥

e sravanahu meriho saachai sunnai no pathaae. saachai sunnai no pathaae sareer laae sunahu sat baanee. jit sunee man tan hariaa hoaa rasnaa ras samaanee. sach alakh vidaanee taa kee gat kahee na jaae. kahai naanak amrit baanee suneeai sravanahu saachai sunnai no pathaae.

O my ears, you were created to hear the Truth. You were created to hear the Truth — attached to the body, listen to the true Word. Hearing it, the mind and body are rejuvenated and the tongue is absorbed in its essence. The True Lord is unseen and wondrous — His state cannot be described. Says Nanak, listen to the ambrosial Word — O ears, you were created to hear the Truth.

हे मेरे कानो, सच्चे को सुनने के लिए तुम्हें भेजा गया। सच्चे को सुनने के लिए तुम्हें शरीर में लगाया गया — सत्य-वाणी सुनो। जिसे सुनने पर मन-तन हरा हो जाए और रसना रस में समा जाए। वह सच्चा अलक्ष्य, विडाणी (अद्भुत) है, उसकी गति कही नहीं जा सकती। नानक कहते हैं — अमृत-वाणी सुनो; कानो, सच्चे को सुनने के लिए भेजे गए हो।
