Guru Granth Sahib 2.39

ਏ ਮਨ ਮੇਰਿਆ ਤੂ ਕਿਆ ਕਰਹਿ ਆਇਆ ॥ ਤੂ ਕਿਆ ਕਰਹਿ ਜੀਅ ਮੇਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਨ ਵਸਾਇਆ ॥ ਹਰਿ ਤਾ ਮਨਿ ਨ ਵਸਾਇਆ ਕਿਤੁ ਆਇਆ ਜਗ ਮਹਿ ॥ ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਹਰਿ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਤਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ ਕਹੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਮੰਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਕਿਆ ਕਰਹਿ ਆਇਆ ॥੩੯॥

e man meriaa too kiaa kareh aaiaa. too kiaa kareh jeea mere har man na vasaaiaa. har taa man na vasaaiaa kit aaiaa jag meh. gur parsaadee har mann vasiaa taa sukh paaiaa. kahai naanak mann mere har bin kiaa kareh aaiaa.

O my mind, what are you doing since you have come here? What have you done, O my soul — you have not enshrined the Lord in your mind. If you have not enshrined the Lord in your mind, then why have you come into the world? By the Guru's grace, when the Lord comes to dwell in the mind, then peace is obtained. Says Nanak, O my mind, without the Lord, what have you done since coming here?

हे मेरे मन, तू यहाँ आकर क्या कर रहा है? क्या कर रहा है, मेरी जान — हरि को मन में नहीं बसाया। हरि को मन में नहीं बसाया, तो जग में आए ही किसलिए? गुरु-कृपा से हरि मन में बसे, तब सुख पाए। नानक कहते हैं — हे मेरे मन, हरि बिना यहाँ आकर क्या कर रहा है?
