Katha Upanishad 4.2

पराचः कामाननुयन्ति बालास्ते मृत्योर्यन्ति विततस्य पाशम् | अथ धीरा अमृतत्वं विदित्वा ध्रुवमध्रुवेष्विह न प्रार्थयन्ते ॥

parachah kaman anuyanti balas te mrityor yanti vitatasya pasham | atha dhira amritatvam viditva dhruvam adhruveshv iha na prarthayante ||

The childish pursue outward pleasures; they walk into the net of widespread death. But the wise, knowing immortality, do not seek the permanent among things impermanent here.

बालक-बुद्धि वाले बाह्य कामों के पीछे दौड़ते हैं; वे विस्तृत मृत्यु के पाश में जा फँसते हैं। किन्तु धीर पुरुष अमृतत्व को जानकर इस लोक की अनित्य वस्तुओं में नित्य की चाह नहीं रखते।
