Mundaka Upanishad 2.7

प्लवा ह्येते अदृढा यज्ञरूपा अष्टादशोक्तमवरं येषु कर्म | एतच्छ्रेयो येऽभिनन्दन्ति मूढा जरामृत्युं ते पुनरेवापि यन्ति ॥

plava hy ete adridha yajna-rupa ashtadashoktam avaram yeshu karma | etach chreyo ye'bhinandanti mudha jara-mrityum te punar evapi yanti ||

Frail indeed are these boats in the form of sacrifices, eighteen in number, in which the lower work is said to reside. The deluded who delight in this as the highest good fall again and again into old age and death.

किन्तु ये यज्ञ-रूपी नौकाएँ दुर्बल हैं — इनमें जो अठारह (ऋत्विक्/कर्म) कहे गये हैं वह अवर-कर्म है। जो मूढ़ इसी को श्रेय मानकर अभिनन्दन करते हैं, वे फिर-फिर जरा और मृत्यु को प्राप्त होते हैं।
