Prashna Upanishad 1.10

अथोत्तरेण तपसा ब्रह्मचर्येण श्रद्धया विद्ययाऽऽत्मानमन्विष्यादित्यमभिजयन्ते | एतद्वै प्राणानामायतनमेतदमृतमभयमेतत्परायणमेतस्मान्न पुनरावर्तन्ते इत्येष निरोधस्तदेष श्लोकः ॥

athottarena tapasa brahmacharyena shraddhaya vidyaya''tmanam anvishyadityam abhijayante | etad vai prananam ayatanam etad amritam abhayam etat parayanam etasman na punar avartante ity esha nirodhah tad esha shlokah ||

But by the northern path, through austerity, chastity, faith, and knowledge, seeking the Self, they win the sun. This is the home of all lives, the immortal, the fearless, the supreme goal. From this they do not return. This is the final end.

किन्तु उत्तर मार्ग से, तप, ब्रह्मचर्य, श्रद्धा और विद्या के द्वारा आत्मा का अन्वेषण करते हुए वे आदित्य को प्राप्त करते हैं। यही प्राणों का आश्रय है, यही अमृत है, यही अभय है, यही परम गति है — इससे वे पुनः नहीं लौटते। यही निरोध (अन्तिम विराम) है। इसी विषय में यह श्लोक है।
