Prashna Upanishad 6.5

स यथेमा नद्यः स्यन्दमानाः समुद्रायणाः समुद्रं प्राप्यास्तं गच्छन्ति भिद्येते तासां नामरूपे समुद्र इत्येवं प्रोच्यते ॥

sa yathema nadyah syandamanah samudrayanah samudram prapyastam gacchanti bhidyete tasam namarupe samudra ity evam prochyate ||

Just as these flowing rivers, bound for the ocean, having reached the ocean, disappear — their name and form are dissolved, and it is called simply 'the ocean' —

जैसे ये बहती हुई नदियाँ समुद्र की ओर जा रही हैं; समुद्र को प्राप्त कर वे विलीन हो जाती हैं; उनके नाम-रूप मिट जाते हैं; और उसे केवल 'समुद्र' कहा जाता है —
