The Rig Veda is the oldest of the four Vedas and the oldest known text in any Indo-European language, composed between c. 1500–1200 BCE. It contains 1,028 suktas (hymns) organized in 10 mandalas (books) with 10,552 verses addressed to the gods of nature and cosmic order. This collection presents the most celebrated suktas — philosophical hymns on creation, cosmic sacrifice, divine speech, and the nature of reality — that have shaped Hindu thought for over three millennia.
