Rig Veda 11.2

य आधाय चरत एकमिच्चन्नयूयुजन्तमनु रूपं नर्मिषम् । स एवमिद्वृषभस्याभजत्पृगो मार्ध्वयन्परिपरिणं यामि ॥

ya adhaya charata ekam ichchan na ayuyujantam anu rupam narmisham | sa evam id vrishabhasya abhajat prigo mardhvayan pariparinaam yami

He who has food and does not share it with the hungry, who turns away from the needy — truly the mighty bull casts him aside; I declare: self-centeredness is the longest road.

जो अन्न पाकर भूखे के साथ बाँटता नहीं, आवश्यकता वाले से मुँह मोड़ लेता है — उसे वह वृषभ फेंक देता है; मैं कहता हूँ: एकान्त-भोजी का मार्ग सबसे लम्बा होता है।
