Rig Veda 2.7

अपादहस्तो अपृतन्यदिन्द्रमाशनिमस्य दधत प्रति स्कन्धे । वृष्णो वधम्प्रति मुष्कातिविध्यः पुरूणि वृत्रो अशयद्व्यस्तः ॥

apad ahasto apritanyad indram ashanim asya dadhat prati skandhe | vrishno vadham prati mushka ativishyah puruni vritro ashayad vyastah

Footless and handless, he still fought Indra, who struck him with the thunderbolt upon his back. The bull, castrated and struck through, Vritra lay scattered in many places.

बिना हाथ-पैर के भी वह इन्द्र से लड़ा; इन्द्र ने अशनि को उसके कंधे पर प्रहार किया। उस वृषभ को खंडित किया — इसी प्रकार वृत्र टुकड़े-टुकड़े होकर पड़ा रहा।
