Tao Te Ching 21.1

孔德之容，惟道是從。道之為物，惟恍惟惚。惚兮恍兮，其中有象；恍兮惚兮，其中有物。窈兮冥兮，其中有精；其精甚真，其中有信。自古及今，其名不去，以閱衆甫。吾何以知衆甫之狀哉？以此。

kong de zhi rong, wei dao shi cong. dao zhi wei wu, wei huang wei hu. hu xi huang xi, qi zhong you xiang; huang xi hu xi, qi zhong you wu. yao xi ming xi, qi zhong you jing; qi jing shen zhen, qi zhong you xin. zi gu ji jin, qi ming bu qu, yi yue zhong fu. wu he yi zhi zhong fu zhi zhuang zai? yi ci.

The grandest virtue is to follow the Tao and the Tao alone. The Tao as a thing is elusive and evasive. Evasive and elusive, yet within it are forms. Elusive and evasive, yet within it are things. Shadowy and dim, yet within it is an essence. This essence is very real; within it is truth. From ancient times to the present, its name has never been forgotten. Through it one can observe all beginnings. How do I know the nature of all beginnings? Through this.

महानतम गुण का रूप केवल दाओ का अनुसरण है। दाओ नामक वस्तु — अनिश्चित और क्षणिक। क्षणिक-अनिश्चित, उसके भीतर आकार हैं; अनिश्चित-क्षणिक, उसके भीतर वस्तुएँ हैं। गहन और अंधकारमय, उसके भीतर सार-तत्त्व है; वह सार अत्यंत सत्य है, उसके भीतर विश्वास है। प्राचीन काल से आज तक उसका नाम नहीं लुप्त हुआ, और उसी के द्वारा समस्त आदियों का अवलोकन होता है। मैं समस्त आदियों के स्वरूप को कैसे जानता हूँ? इसी के द्वारा।
