Tao Te Ching 22.1

曲則全，枉則直，窪則盈，敝則新，少則得，多則惑。是以聖人抱一為天下式。不自見故明，不自是故彰，不自伐故有功，不自矜故長。夫唯不爭，故天下莫能與之爭。古之所謂曲則全者，豈虛言哉！誠全而歸之。

qu ze quan, wang ze zhi, wa ze ying, bi ze xin, shao ze de, duo ze huo. shi yi sheng ren bao yi wei tian xia shi. bu zi jian gu ming, bu zi shi gu zhang, bu zi fa gu you gong, bu zi jin gu zhang. fu wei bu zheng, gu tian xia mo neng yu zhi zheng. gu zhi suo wei qu ze quan zhe, qi xu yan zai! cheng quan er gui zhi.

The bent shall be whole. The crooked shall be straight. The empty shall be full. The worn shall be renewed. Those who have little shall gain. Those who have much shall be confused. Therefore the sage embraces the One and becomes the standard for the world. He does not display himself, and so he shines. He does not justify himself, and so he is distinguished. He does not boast, and so he has merit. He does not glorify himself, and so he endures. Because he does not contend, no one in the world can contend with him. The ancient saying 'the bent shall be whole' — are these empty words? Truly, wholeness is achieved and all things return to it.

झुका हुआ अक्षत रहेगा; टेढ़ा सीधा हो जाएगा; रिक्त भर जाएगा; जीर्ण नवीन हो जाएगा; जिसके पास कम है वह पाएगा; जिसके पास अधिक है वह भ्रमित होगा। इसलिए संत 'एक' को धारण कर संसार का मानक बन जाता है। वह स्वयं को नहीं दिखाता, इसलिए देदीप्यमान है; स्वयं को सही नहीं ठहराता, इसलिए प्रसिद्ध है; स्वयं की बड़ाई नहीं करता, इसलिए सिद्धि है; स्वयं का गर्व नहीं करता, इसलिए टिकता है। और चूँकि वह प्रतिस्पर्धा नहीं करता, संसार में कोई उससे प्रतिस्पर्धा नहीं कर सकता। प्राचीनों का कहा 'झुका हुआ अक्षत रहेगा' — क्या व्यर्थ वचन है? सचमुच, पूर्णता सिद्ध होती है और सब इसी में लौटते हैं।
