Tao Te Ching 26.1

重為輕根，靜為躁君。是以聖人終日行不離輜重。雖有榮觀，燕處超然。奈何萬乘之主，而以身輕天下？輕則失本，躁則失君。

zhong wei qing gen, jing wei zao jun. shi yi sheng ren zhong ri xing bu li zi zhong. sui you rong guan, yan chu chao ran. nai he wan sheng zhi zhu, er yi shen qing tian xia? qing ze shi ben, zao ze shi jun.

The heavy is the root of the light. Stillness is the master of restlessness. Therefore the sage travels all day without leaving his baggage wagon. Though there are magnificent sights to behold, he remains calm and detached. How can the lord of ten thousand chariots act lightly before the world? If he is light, he loses his root. If he is restless, he loses his mastery.

भारी हल्के का मूल है; स्थिरता चंचलता की स्वामी है। इसलिए संत पूरे दिन यात्रा करता है पर अपने भार-वाहन से पृथक नहीं होता। वैभवशाली दृश्य हों तो भी वह शांत और निरासक्त बना रहता है। दस हजार रथों का स्वामी अपने शरीर से संसार के प्रति कैसे हल्का रह सकता है? हल्का होगा तो मूल खो देगा; चंचल होगा तो स्वामित्व खो देगा।
